Indo-American Friendship Dinner

This years Dinner was dedicated to celebrate the 140th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and to pay tribute to the contributions of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. An original footage from Mahatma Gandhi’s life time was shown to mark the event and the Board of Trustees of India Forum presented a Plaque to honor Senator Kennedy. There was a traditional dance performance of Bharatnatyam followed by delicious Indian food and dessert. India Forum released a Souvenir magazine to mark this event.

HOLDS ITS ANNUAL HOLI DANCE COMPETITION 2009

Hosting its Annual Holi Dance Competition on Sunday April 12th. 2009, at the Jim Rouse Theatre Columbia Maryland, India Forum Inc, once again presented the vibrant colors, music and rich culture of India to its audience.
Attended by a gathering of around 350 people of different cultures and nationalities, the theatre was spellbound by the presentation of Folk and Bollywood dances by around 90 children competing in the Elementary, Middle and High School categories from different dance schools in Maryland and Virginia.
Artistic creations of veteran dance teachers and choreographers, executed to perfection by the participants, the 3 hr program was appreciated by the audience with comments like, “With the high quality of the performances, professional presentations by the emcees (and board members) and seamless transitions from one performance to the next; kept the audience engaged from beginning to end.”
The competition began with a Special classical group performance in Bharatnatyam style by students of Natya Kala Mandir. This was followed by the 22 dance competition items presented in the Solo and Group Categories. Judged by 4 renowned dance professionals Dr Paulomi Desai Pandya, Gita Prabhkaran, Aparna Sathe and Anjali Kulkarni, under 7 different criteria, it was a very closely fought contest. The event ended with a special classical dance performance in the Kathak style by Anjali Kulkarni.
One of the highlights of the event was that it was emceed by four highly motivated and enthusiastic youth from the community; Kirti & Harsh Khosla, Kaviksha Saxena and Sofia.

In Columbia MD
Hosting its Annual Holi Dance Competition on Saturday March 29th., India Forum Inc presented the vibrant colors, music and costumes of India. A gathering of around 350 people at the Jim Rouse Theatre in Columbia Maryland were spellbound by the presentation of Folk and Bollywood dances by children competing in the Elementary, Middle and High School categories.
Around 80 Participants from different dance schools in Maryland and Virginia executed artistic creations of veteran dance teachers and choreographers to perfection.
The program was appreciated by the audience with comments like, “ This program has really set the bar very high”.
The competition was followed by an exquisite show of traditional Indian costumes by members of the community. Wives and children from families and friends put together this spectacular walk, with ramp like professionalism, to the tunes from India music maestros.
Not to forget the deliciously spicy Indian snacks that were served during the break, to keep the fun going in this 3 hr show.
